Excellent Xmas as usual with some fab gifts that includes a much anticipated AMG driving experience, but there is a condition been set by CJ that I cannot bring one home
maybe two is the answer
Have the most excellent Star Trek (II) on BR and looking forward to getting home to watch as no BR player here
oh well I can always watch the lower res version. I also got Inglorious Barsterds so interested to see if it lives up to the reviews.

And of course a bottle or two

Merry Xmas everyone

At last its completed

This christmas lark is tiring

Xmas Tree & Decorations
Yes it has started – here are the xmas tree and two boxes of decorations
Finally got our lab server from the US, it is a beast in terms of power all delivered by Intel in a blade size 1U unit
It hums along with its 48Gb RAM, Multiple Multi-core processors and a mere 800Gb of diskspace. This week we have had two Oracle DB instances running on it with a full Oracle Beehive install plus a complete Oracle WebCenter Spaces install and experiencing lightening quick response times.
In addition to the server we have a tree…

Xmas Tree
So Christmas Day has been an gone very quickly. The little boy had a fab time but finished the running on reserves so was a bit hyper and spaced at the same time. Above he is opening one of his first presents on Xmas day..
Worked this morning after giving the car a quick wash and I can confirm that its blue black and not a dull grey
From working we went out for lunch at the Wheatsheaf and a walk around Virginia Water with friends.
Good food and a nice walk followed more work especially as I am trying to get my broadband speed back up to the original 2MB I had since May 2005, more on that later.
Sorted out my presents and a bit of packing but the rest can wait till morning.
Merry Xmas and more over the holiday period as an when I get time
It only seems like yesterday it was y2k, and we are stepping closer to the end of the decade. A mixed week so far, busy in some respect not in others. But as far as the rebuild of the laptop that has already progressed nicely.
I have managed to install a base WinXP partition and start to get the patches upto date plus some of the smaller applications. The Ubuntu partition was installed last night after a failed attempt with a duff CD. This morning installed the VPN clients and got the core/base IBM layers installed this did take too long. I then went and did the productivity based layer including Notes 8.5 and Sametime 8 this seem to take forever due to the network connection drip feeding the packets, I mean in today age and I managed to get a throughput rate between 19-64kbps which is poor, I should have dialed in it would have been quicker.
Had the partition completed by early afternoon and now need to put the extras on such as VMWare and a few other apps.
Nipped out for an hour to see Cameron’s first Xmas concert and this was good although it was chaos, children and parents everywhere, hey ho. The little one is asleep now and I don’t blame him, Ruth over for dinner tonight (ok takeaway) and Debbie & Roman over for lunch tomorrow.
Todays partial experiment with some changes in presentation content went OK, I suspect this will be a long road and not everyone will like. Now planning activities to do over the Xmas period ideas so far:
- Rebuild main laptop as it runs like a dog, has not been done for around two years and need clearing down
- Clean up MacBook and organise my photos
- Prep technology for Lotusphere 2009 trip
In additional to the above I need to do loads around the house and chill out so lets see how things go..
So have completed Xmas shopping thanks to the net. So just all the wrapping to go, yippee. It is amazing that the main delay in getting my xmas shopping complete hasn’t been the mail/shipping or the waiting for thing to be released or come back into stock as has been the case in the past, but this year it has been about getting the ideas and wishes from everyone.
So this does make me sound uninventive and lazy, but it is nice to get some ideas so that I don’t miss the persons desires on what they would really like. Nothing worse than buying something and seeing them trying to hide the thought that pops into their mind as they open it “why the hell did he get me this” or “interesting choice”.
So hopefully this year I have come close to peoples wishes and that there will not be too much changing in the new year.
Now only 8 working days left and then a long weekend before going back to work….
